I did try hard with it for about 3 months and then took it off and it's been in my #2 camera bag ever since. It didn't seem possible to get it set up to have a nice silky smooth action and to give a high degree of control. The main problem I had with the Pistol grip was I always found it difficult in that it was too floppy to be stable or too stiff to move easily.

The Friction and lock are quite large knobs and so it is very easy and quick to set up.Īny good quality Ball Head should fit the bill. Then if my subject settles, I tighten up the lock. What I tend to do is release the lock and leave the friiction adjusted so that it is enough to stop the camera tilting but not so stiff that I cannot manipulate the whole thing. I put a quick release plate on the top so mounting the camera/lense is a breeze. It has a Pan base, Friction setting, a lock and what they call a tilt function which locks the ball into a single plane of movement. I bought a German manufactured Ball Head made by a company called FLM. I did notice the slippage in the demo model but that was attributed to "tension" setting. Hold on to the pistol grip for general walk around shooting, but So I am ordering a much sturdier BH-55 to address this. Thatīeing said, I can’t totally blame the pistol grip, but it doesn’t I am having a hard time getting those crisp-sharp shots. Positions, but I am constantly fighting with it slipping.
